About LAASER
The LAASER program aims to build a network of clinical and laboratory sites for the monitoring and surveillance of HIV drug resistance in developing countries in Africa and Asia. The LAASER program will strengthen capacity on HIV drug resistance by conducting observational patient studies, developing a quality assurance network for genotypic resistance testing, and by providing specific specialized trainings to health professionals. LAASER research outcomes will provide unique information on HIV drug resistance patterns in developing countries, which will contribute to effectively inform policy on optimal HIV treatment program practices and create leverage for the availability of second line treatment where it is not yet available. In addition, the LAASER program seeks to provide international civil society organisations with a networking and learning forum to enhance access to quality treatment and care by means of a Roundtable Process.
